It’s amazing that the world visits the website. The top five countries are Australia (that’s good), USA, UK, India, and Canada. In fact people from 159 nations of the world have stumbled across our website. The top six cities are Sydney (that’s even better!), Melbourne, London, Brisbane, Perth, and Los Angeles.
What is pleasing is that 22.6% are returning visitors. There have been over 31,000 users with over 40,000 sessions and over 95,000 page views since the website went “live”. It just shows how the internet really has connected the world more than any other media has ever done and it’s only going to more incredible in our lifetime.
Now for the reality check. Most parts of the world don’t stay for long. Hey, if they learn something and not actual show up at Seymour Dental, that’s OK. We have had patients come in from all over the world. Usually they are locals who have moved abroad and are coming back to visit, but we do get the occasional tourist. We have seen people from the UK, Switzerland, Germany, and USA.
We now have to monitor emails as people now contact the website more and more, as phoning the surgery may not always be convenient due to work or even world time differences.
The website was “born” on 23rd December 2011, but looking back at my notes and emails the pregnancy started in March that year. Over 9 months. It’s sort of poetic in some sense. However the practice has been there since September 1988. Yes, there was a world before the internet!
There was a steep learning curve in learning about website design, trademark, copyright, disclaimers, terms of use and privacy. We have even written blogs on the website, so people can get more out of it, and even a blog post on the blog!
What I learnt the most is that the website reflects the practice. Essentially it has to be real. We are only human, which means there is always room for improvement. We are always learning. As dentists we are required to keep our registration. The staff are always learning new things. Hey, and we have some fun on the way through. We are having a movie night in the next couple of weeks. Now the challenge is for everyone to agree on a movie.
The website has organically changed with the practice and services we provide as shown by the blog categories and services and about the practice itself. The website now is able to be seen clearly on different devices. The world is literally in our hands!
Understanding and communication are an important part of treatment. We hope the website and the past 200 blog posts have gone someway to providing this.
We will take a break from celebrating our 200th blog. Next week we introduce Joy our latest dental student to help us at Seymour Dental.
Next week: Introducing Joy – Our new dental student and the week before a practical exam (not joy)
