Aloha! Hawaii is located in the Pacific Ocean, halfway between Australia and the U.S. mainland. It takes 9 hours to fly from Sydney to Honolulu. During my September/October Uni break, I took a 10-day trip to Hawaii!
There are several islands in Hawaii and the two I visited were called Oahu and Maui. Oahu is famous for Honolulu (the capital city of Hawaii), Pearl Harbor, and Waikiki Beach. But compared to the highly populated and commercialised Oahu, I preferred and spent most of my trip in the more naturally preserved Maui. In Maui, I did a few outdoor activities such as ziplining, kayaking, and hiking. What I was most impressed with there was the Haleakala National Park, where a dormant volcano is located at over 3000 meters above the sea level. You can hike inside the volcano crater.
My other point of interest in Maui is the “Road to Hana” drive. Hana is a small town located high up in the mountains in Maui. It is famous because the way leads to Hana, called “Hana Highway”, takes 2.5 hours non-stop to drive from the start. Hana Highway is very winding and narrow. It takes great skills to drive up to Hana, but it is well worth all the troubles – because the views you encounter on this road trip are beyond amazing!
“A picture says a thousand words.” Here come some highlights of my trip annotated in words.
