Team Miroma is gearing up for next weekend’s bridge run. We are doing our best to get the fitness levels up for the big day. We have been fortunate to have run in wonderful weather and in great locations. We set off one to run around the grounds of Sydney University. It has changed a lot since I graced its halls many years ago. Sorry, showing my age! Running by buildings that did not exist and new sports facilities and yet many of the old buildings and their character still remain. Even the great hall where I first graduated has a new use – wedding receptions. Joy has been my tour guide throughout these training sessions as she is a dental student. It takes your mind off pounding the pavements.
During the week I have been fortunate to have a friend who is a personal trainer Katka, check to see if I was OK to run after my stint in hospital. I got the all clear but after some stretching exercise she found all sorts of issues with my muscles from my work and sports activities that needed to be ironed out. This was so I can run better (and even work and play better). OMG I found sore spots that I never knew existed! Ironing out we did! I feel much better and have a running technique that will make it easier move and avoid injuries. It’s a work in progress.
Then we set out to the Bay Run and covered 7km. We were joined by a training partner, one of my nurses, Renee. Another beautiful day and surprisingly quite warm, but the cool breeze made it comfortable. It was a very much appreciated effort, as it was straight after work with no lunch. The team needed to get the kilometres up and we did it!
I would like to thank those patients and friends and business who have donated to such a brilliant organisation, Miroma, who have helped adults with disabilities for the length of their lives! It is a monumental task, a journey that I am now starting with my son James. I am so appreciative of the carers and staff who have to cater for all the different, and often, unique types of disabilities.
If you would like to donate that would be great, and thank you for reading and increasing awareness of these people.
