Onwards with the road trip to the north shore of Oahu after encountering dinosaurs we are on way to meet another creature that is ancient, but this time they still exist and are not the stuff of Hollywood. Actually, they have appeared in movies.
Anyway, we passed the famous but busy surf beaches of Pipeline and Waimea Bay; but no big surf as it’s summer. We finally reached Turtle Bay Beach with parking and the large Sea Turtles!
We arrived at 5pm to find parking right next to the beach. There was a dangerous rip about and the lifeguard said don’t go in past your waist! He directed us to a point in the beach between two bays which was safe. Unbelievably, there were the Sea Turtles out and about feeding close to shore amongst the shallow coral.
Just as well we brought our full-face snorkel gear from Australia! We were surrounded by these amazing creatures. Robbie had three of them circling him. You are not meant to touch them, but they are so large, so it took a lot of effort to avoid them.
The full-face mask allowed amazing uninterrupted vision. You can see them feeding and curiously looking up at you. They looked very chilled and relaxed.
Not only was I swimming with turtles but with the electronic car keys… as the sun was going down on a wonderful day, will get back to Waikiki?
After drying the key… the car door opened; ok, now to start the car… yes!!!!
Now to get the Dodge back before the hire company closes at 9pm. It’s already 7pm. The adventure continues…
