Blog Series – Team Miroma / Wairoa Runs – Part 3 – The Covid Years and Beyond

October 27, 2025

Covid changed the world in 2020 including Team Miroma.

The Team ran The Sydney Harbour Bridge Run on Sunday the 8th November 2020. Again, it was an early start at 8am, but 2020 was Covid 19 style! The 10km event was virtual.

We ran from Maroubra to Bondi beaches. Aisha Imran, Seymour Dental social media manager, at the same time, ran in Melbourne.

This will be our 12th amazing year for Team Miroma. We are again raising funds for Inala.  James, my son, then was now 23 years old.  He has autism and is non-verbal, and a young adult who wants to experience life! He loves music, concerts/gigs, the outdoors, the beach, and having a laugh. Sometimes he has difficulties which are not clearly understood by anyone.

Aisha joined Team Miroma, for the first time. She lives in Melbourne and we will run together virtually. This has not been done before! She also handles Seymour Dental’s presence in the virtual space. Aisha worked as a Social Media Manager at Sensis, managing up to 20 clients’ accounts across all social platforms at any one time. She helped Seymour Dental and she can help you too. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/aishimran/).

The more people that know about Inala, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing with your friends and family. We have found an excellent provider for James called Miroma which is a branch of InalaThey have never given up on James!

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Virtual Charity Run 2020 – Team Miroma – We Did It! – for Adults with Challenges and Abilities

Team Miroma made an early start at 8am, again in Covid 19 style, the 10km event virtually. Adam came along to help us start the run at Maroubra beach with pace. Robbie, my son, also joined Team Miroma to help the old man during the run andAisha ImranSeymour Dental social media manager, at the same time, began her run in a park run in Melbourne with a friend. In Sydney, the day was getting warmer, but in Melbourne the day was getting colder! We did a Facetime check in before the start and we were off.

Then in 2021, Covid continued.

Team Miroma will be running The Sydney Harbour Bridge Run on Sunday the 17th October 21. It will again be an early start, but again Covid 19 style! The 10km event is going virtual again.

Joining us this year will Gillian, who is a dental student/nurse at the practice. We will run from where we are allowed to in Sydney, depending on our LGA status, either together or apart. Thanks Covid!

Aisha Imran, Seymour Dental social media manager, at the same time, will also run in Melbourne, (hopefully depending on Covid!). She handles Seymour Dental’s presence in the virtual space. Aisha worked as a Social Media Manager at Sensis, managing up to 20 clients’ accounts across all social platforms at any one time. She helped Seymour Dental and she can help you too. (https://www.linkedin.com/in/aishimran/).

Then it was our 13th amazing year for Team Miroma. We are again raising funds for Inala.  James, my son, was 24 years old. Hard to believe! He has autism and is non-verbal, and a young adult who wants to experience life! He loves music, concerts/gigs, the outdoors, the beach, and having a laugh. Sometimes he has difficulties which are not clearly understood by anyone.

A Tale of Two Cities – Sydney and Melbourne

Sydney

Gillian and the man set out early very warm afternoon on the Sydney Harbour Bridge Virtual Run for 2021. We setup our Runkeeper app and pressed Start and we were off.

Gillian and the man at Cooks River at the start of the Run

The setting was the pathways along both sides of the banks of the Cook’s River. The pathways were mostly flat and under the shade of many trees, thank goodness. The man was sweating and was not as sure footed with a niggling right knee. Gillian was really trying to raise a sweat. One of us had done a lot of running in the past…

While the Runkeeper was counting down the kms, we passed people paddling in kayaks, people playing golf (a bit dangerous), lots of groups of people having picnics, and avoiding bike riders… fun!

Melbourne

Aisha Imran, Seymour Dental’s social media manager, our woman in Melbourne, makes Seymour Dental’s presence happening in the virtual space. Well she was going to make Team Miroma happening virtually as she did last year.

Aisha's Run Last Year in Melbourne for Miroma

Unfortunately, Covid indirectly altered that with a medical appointment being brought forward due to the easing of restrictions. So, she was keen to run but she had to wait a while, so her friend ran the 10km that she ran with last year.

Life after Covid begins in 2022

The REAL Sydney Harbour Bridge Charity Run 2022 – Team Miroma – for Adults with Challenges and Abilities

Fingers crossed! There is no certainty in this Covid world. Events cancelled. More than likely Team members may get sick or have to care for others. So, let’s hope Team Miroma will be there in the flesh, otherwise forget about doing a Virtual run, it will be a Facetime, Zoom, or Harbour Bridge Run virtual reality computer game. (Now, that’s a thought).

Back to earth!

Team Miroma 2022 will be joined by a long-time family friend & runner, Jo and her friend Amy.

Gillian won’t be able to be with us as she is nearing the end of her Dental degree, so life has become very busy. I want to thank her for running with me last year, virtually.

Team Miroma will again do the Harbour Bridge Run on Sunday 18/9/2022.

The 10km event, after being virtual for 2 years, due to Covid, is now REAL!!!

The Harbour Bridge Run 2022 for Miroma

We did it Team Miroma for the 20th anniversary Harbour Bridge 10km Run 2022. What a beautiful day! Perfect conditions to run onto the Harbour Bridge.

We all set out from Milson’s Point near Luna Park from 8am with a small but significant amount of humanity.

Then through the “corkscrew tunnel” onto the Cahill expressway, then to down Art Gallery Road, past the Botanical Gardens, and of course, past the NSW Art Gallery. Our next landmarks to pass were Hyde Park, St Mary’s Church, NSW Parliament House and finally the Sydney Opera House.
