Blog Series – Team Miroma / Wairoa Runs – Part 4 – Recent Times

The only constant is change. The Bridge run was originally run by Blackmores as a 10km run. Then it grew to include a 3km walk, Wheelchair section and a half and full marathon. Then ASIC took over. The 10km run was a marathon too. The start changed from an 8am to arriving before dawn with floodlights showing us the way to the start.

Well before that, the notable events of the 17^th September 2023 are:

5.52am – sunrise at Milson’s Point @ Luna Park
6.00am – 16 degrees at said point
6.05am – The start of The Harbour Bridge “Marathon” Team Miroma 23
(Yes, it’s OMG early, but we finish when 18 degrees).

The day started with making sure we got the 5am first light rail from Juniors Kingsford, change at Central (hoping the App was correct and public transport was working) and then Milsons point @ 5.35am.

No mucking around with the start, we were off at 6.05am “ish”. We were glad of the early start, watching the sunrise with no heat yet.

The Sydney Harbour Bridge Charity Run 2024 – Team Miroma – for Adults with Challenges and Abilities

We did it! 10km, in the biting cold gusty wind.

At one point -2km wind then a +2km gust. Some Lebanese drums then medals! Jo you’re a legend.

Today started at 4.30am but this journey started 26 years ago when James was born. Eva Seymour has been there for James through very difficult times. Many friends have run with me over the years and they have given up their time (and bodies) to spread awareness and raise funds for these young adults. Such a blessing.

Run Day

Up at 4.30am to meet Jo at Sydenham Metro station at dawn. Soo cold. The air was icy without any wind movement. At least there was no rain. Well, first time on the metro to travel the Victoria Cross station near North Sydney Oval, the new start on the run. Sadly, not near Luna Park as it was from the beginning.

So many more people than last year, so we went in waves and sections. It was a bit chaotic as the 10km run and the 42km Marathon are both called Marathons and have the same wave and section numbers. So, we waited in the biting cold, (starting cramp) for our turn as the 42km runner’s waves went.

Finally, after an hour were so happy to move onto the Bridge. At least we covered 2km to get there.

Charity Run 2025 – Team Miroma – for Adults with Challenges and Abilities

ASIC wanted to make the Harbour Bridge Marathon onto the World Marathon Circuit….and they did.

However, the Harbour Bridge 10km run is now the end of August, AND it was booked out in one day!

So, we are doing the following run

Sunday 21^st September 2025
Metcalfe Park, Pyrmont
Sydney NSW
9:00am

A flat 2 lap course, that takes you along Pyrmont Bay, past Jones Bay Wharf and Pirrama Park with iconic Sydney & harbour views throughout, and returning to Metcalfe Park to finish.

Unfortunately, Jo was not well at all at the last minute and couldn’t run. Ellie joined us last minute for here third time running in Team Miroma.
