This weekend began my training with Team Sunnyfield in earnest. Actually, it was my first training run for the 10km run on the 20th September, so let’s go!
Thankfully we had beautiful weather except the time I time I wanted to head out; the wind picked up and the rang came in. Well, this is what 0% rain on my weather app looks like. First world problems, I was seeing things, should have gone to spec savers! (I happy for them to be my sponsors).
Now to introduce Elena. Early start to catch the sunshine and cool morning to get the kilometers up. It was great to start with some one fit and understanding of my unfitness.
We headed out to the headland to enjoy the spectacular scenery. I surprised myself with my breathing was ok. The legs were ok-ish as we continued on. Elena just completed the 14km hilly City 2 Surf run recently on her own. Well, done!
The only hazards were the insects dive bombing our face… I nearly swallowed one…. And the other people running… honestly. The run clubs are especially dangerous, like a semi-trailer coming at you. Felt good to complete the run.
With Ellie we did a late afternoon rain in the windy and rainy conditions that cleared to a calm end of day run. More kms and more confidence. Breathing well however legs had a slight twinge but after a stretch… all good!
COURSE MAP for the 10km run on 20th Sept 2026
The new and improved fast & flowing course, starting on the Sydney Harbour foreshore at Darling Island, the course heads around Darling Harbour and following the sparkling waterfront north along the picturesque promenade.

On the return, you’ll retrace the harbour’s edge back towards Darling Island Push strong through the final kilometres as you make your way to the finish line in Metcalfe Park — a memorable end to a truly stunning harbour run.

As I’ve learnt over the many years that the only constant is change. Changing James, changed provider, carers, more Team Sunnyfield members, and the donors, but always, always, a grateful family for all these wonderful people!
Sunnyfield has created a webpage tile for our fundraising team mission. This way you can make a tax-deductible donation via the direct links below.
The donations will automatically go to Sunnyfield and it will generate an electronic tax-deductible receipt instantly to your email.

Our son, James, is 28 years old, has autism and is non-verbal. We know firsthand how important it is for young adults with disability to have opportunities to participate, stay active, try new things and feel a genuine sense of belonging in their community.
For James, and for so many others like him, these experiences are about much more than exercise. They’re about confidence, connection, independence and being included.
Be part of the energy. Be part of the cause. Be part of the community.
Donate today and help make every kilometre count.
If you would like to make your donation by phone, please call us on 1300 588 688 Monday–Friday between 9.00am and 4.00pm.
