What has changed over the years at Seymour Dental – By Sue – Part 1

At Seymour Dental we aim to move with the times, and so over the years have had quite a few changes. We renovated the practice about 3 years ago with new dental chairs, to go with the new sterilising room and cupboards, not to mention the extra new surgery room. Now we have two updated surgeries running. This makes the availability broader for our patients to come in and see the dentist. With the renovations came a new Autoclave, it’s a high tech machine with computerised readings. Everything is bar-coded and recorded as each cycle goes in and comes out. Each sterilised pouch with the instruments is recorded in each patient’s file, so at any time for any reason the instruments used can be tracked and the nurse who sterilised them as well as the cycle and day and date it was done.

Infection control is kept up to date with us having a recent seminar by Dr Payne who works for the ADA, making sure we comply with the requirements laid down.

All cards of written records have been eliminated now for at least 8 years and everything is kept on the computers for greater confidentiality. Also the computer cannot be altered after the end of the day. This means the records cannot be altered, and it is a true record of events of the day for legal reasons.

We also celebrated the birth of the Seymour Dental website a few years ago, where countless hours have gone into creating it. Each Monday a new dental blog is posted with dental information and occasionally some fun stuff as well. Many patients have given us so much positive feedback from the information that is on the website. It has been configured to anyone who has a computer, iPad, iPad mini, or smart phone.

Everyone at the practice has contributed to the website, so it is truly a team effort!
