Dentist at Large – South Sea to West Blue Mountains

May 26, 2025

Well, being at large took on a different perspective… Respect of nature. Before leaving Sydney for the weekend, I was going to go for a coastal ocean swim. The massive storm surf put paid to that.

But not for one.

A Brave Soul against nature...

He does survive; swimming but going backwards, and ducking under the relentless waves. All the while I’m standing there, mesmerised by the surf, ensuring that he pops up after the waves passes over. He eventually gets out, after he hurriedly looks over his shoulder to check that a wave won’t knock him from behind into the rocks!

I went up to him and shook his hand. “Hey mate, did you take photos or a video?” he said. I did, of course, (everyone does). “Please send them to me, as my daughter won’t believe me!” he happily said with a grin.

See, now, fact checked and verified.

Not getting any better!
Shades of Hawaii 50

I still want a swim, so “go south young man” the voice in my head urged me.

All down the coast the surf was pumping. Seeing people surf in places where there is not normally surf, and surf in places they shouldn’t surf. Certainly, a change from work!

South Coast Surf pumping but the Rock Pool was Zenning
I got my swim in with sun, an amazing view & with no life threatening moments

What a wild, but funnily enough, a restful day. A change is as good as a holiday and got both. We have a country that offers a lot, all at our door step.

So lucky and blessed and thankful. Makes you feel alive. Whoo Hoo!

Now “Go West young man” that voice in my head said…

So, I visited my three sisters and my little nephew

The mountain air so fresh and invigorating. Early in morning it’s peaceful except for the odd kookaburra having a laugh after eyeing you out.

Then, you get to see the mountain mist in all its glory.

The cloud sea in valleys between the many distant mountain ranges

There are many ways to get here-car, bus, uber, taxi, hitch hike and even all of the above if the trains are out due to trackwork.

Hang on there is another way…

As mentioned in an earlier blog, pain relief (can be achieved with a change in scenery, have conversation with people and having a nice meal with friends and family.

Being a dentist has its physical, mental and emotional challenges from time to time.

There is a saying “take care of yourself, otherwise you can’t care of others”.
