We live in a world so dependent on computers, internet and gadget that when we get a first world problem, we could ultimately lose our identity and even not exist.
So, problem one – we are totally reliant on the internet – for our phones, eftpos, hicaps payments, banking, sending and receiving and backing up clinical information and so on. (We do have 5G back ups internet and apps for phone calls and payments).
Now, problem two – security – well everything is working great until Windows 11 came along. Why, because no more security updates for Windows 10.
Hence the upgrading of tech. It’s not the nice new features, greater speed, funny emojis or wild games….. its security from the cyber wolves.
Everyone wants to steal from us as we become a commodity for the dark web. It could mean being held to ransom or blackmailed. It’s the wild west! Who do you trust with so much fake news and liars in the millions.
We already upgrade our router to higher security standards and have constant back- ups and monitoring by our IT support to protect patient records and the running of the practice.
However, not everything works immediately on Windows 11. We have payments systems to configure, backups to work, make sure all the computers to talk each, and of course allowing the dentist to join the party too!
Well, we needed new computers to handle the new operating systems. New monitors would be useful, of course new connections and cables for that.
Oh, yes of course, the software has to like Windows 11. Of course, Windows likes the new Word. The other software packages have to learn to live in the new environment.
Yes, and the rest of it:
The thing is when you think you remember everything, you haven’t, because over the years you add stuff. However, you forget exactly how you added it!
It does your head in. We are not quite there yet. We are having to do work around using the old computers intermittently to preforming some tasks to avoid a new first world problem.
At least the old computers have a better memory than I do on how it was done.
Just a little hiccup was the date was not appearing in a proper format. To err is human, to really stuff up the computer knows how. Without a date, there are no appointments showing. Also, dates are needde to allow notes to be saved, so no entries at all can be made.
Thank goodness for online support… oh, you need the internet for that. It was working but the NBN has its moments…
