Hello Renovations! Part 2 – The Clean up

Computers are marvellous things until you need to move them and put all the wires, plugs and connections back! We wanted to hide the cords as much as possible. This required a lot of planning and feeding cords at the back of cupboards and through holes and corridors at the back of draws and shelves. We now have more bench space and greatly reduced clutter. Thank goodness.

The staff do find it easier to work in the surgery, and a lot easier to clean up. The sterilising room has more bench space, storage and better work flow design. There is also a larger tea room and storage pantry as well as a better set up lab. A glass wall in the back area provides some privacy to the tea room as well as allowing extra light to the area.

The ducted air-conditioning has been a godsend for comfort, especially when we have had 4 seasons in one day. The lighting has been upgraded and the carpet and lino changed. Walls have also had new coats of paint. The electricity power has new safety switches.

There are two new dental chairs and with new LED over head lights allowing the dentists to provide more efficient treatment. See better, do better. After a year we are still tweaking things. It never ends! We even have a sensor bin in the sterilising room that opens the lid with a wave of the hand and closes automatically. It’s a bit sad we get excited over such things.

The one casualty of the renovations has been the picture on the ceiling. With the extra lighting and the duct for the air conditioning, its spot has been over run. It will make a return. Promise.

The next challenges are migrating data and software to the new computers and data bases. What fun lies ahead?
