Blog Series – Dentistry and the Coronavirus 2020

July 6, 2020

The Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic has changed the world forever. As I write this blog, the predicted second wave of infections has happened overseas. In the USA people enjoyed the Memorial Day holiday as a normal day at their peril. They had the worst one day spike in cases since the start of the pandemic. In Australia we have had protest marches, with people ignoring the health warnings and the real evidence of second wave infections from overseas.

History is repeating itself! The soldiers, who survived the horrible conditions of World War One, also brought home the deadly Spanish flu pandemic of 1918 to 1920, the deadliest in modern times. It infected about 500 million people worldwide about one-third of the population of the world at the time – and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims. There were four waves of infection with the second wave the deadliest

Please seek medical advice should you have the symptoms of COVID-19:

PREVENTION BY ALL

  • Safe distancing in the waiting room and removing magazines
  • Wash hands
  • Quarantine all forms of transport from overseas (sort of worked but luckily not too late)
  • Restrict the movement and gathering of people – to prevent community transmission which is the next phase of uncontrollable infection
  • Prevent Cross-contamination – infection control
